Dunnock

Scientific Name:
Prunella modularis
Description

A modest-looking but distinctive small bird with a slim, thrush-like bill rather than the thick bill of similar-looking sparrows. It shows blue-grey tones on the sides of the head and a streaked back. Typically encountered alone or in pairs, it moves across lawns and paths with a characteristic shuffling hop. It inhabits a range of open, scrubby, and lightly wooded areas, from bleak heathland to parks, gardens, and hedged farmland. Its song is rambling and slightly metallic in tone, delivered in an even, warbling rhythm that becomes recognizable with familiarity. Native to Eurasia, it has also been introduced to New Zealand and nearby islands
