Description
The male is mostly green, with a noticeably chunky pale pink bill and bright yellow flashes in the wings and along the sides of the tail. The female is much duller but shows the same overall pattern, especially the large pinkish bill and yellow wing panel. It occupies a wide range of wooded habitats, from forests to parks, gardens, and hedged farmland with scattered trees. In autumn and winter it gathers into flocks and may range into more open areas. It frequently visits garden feeders. Its voice includes a chattering song mixed with drawn-out, buzzy “dzweeeeee” notes. Native to Eurasia, it has also been introduced to parts of southeastern South America, Australia, and New Zealand.
