Lookout Tokens:

Greater White-fronted Goose

Scientific Name:
Anser albifrons
Description
A medium-sized goose found widely across the Northern Hemisphere. Adults are marked by bright orange legs, a white face, and varying black blotches on the belly. The bill ranges in colour from orange to pinkish. Young birds lack the white face and belly markings and show duller orange tones on the legs and bill. It can resemble domestic geese at a glance but is smaller and lacks the bulky, pot-bellied shape of farmyard birds. Bill colour helps distinguish it from the Bean-Geese and Pink-footed Goose. It is also similar to the Lesser White-fronted Goose in Europe and Asia, but that species is smaller, more compact, with a shorter bill and a yellow eye-ring. This goose breeds in tundra and taiga regions and winters in fields, farmland, and wetlands, often gathering in flocks that may include other goose species.
