Description
Common and numerous around towns, suburbs, and farmland, while generally steering clear of dense woodland. Groups gather noisily in thick shrubs, constantly moving and chattering. Males are striking, with a bold black throat patch, rich chestnut nape, and beautifully patterned wings in warm buff and brown tones, set against pale grey underparts. Females are much plainer brown, with a gentle facial expression and a lighter eyebrow. Originally from Eurasia, this species has been introduced to many other parts of the world.
