A graceful, slim duck with a notably long neck and tail. The male shows a rich chocolate-brown head marked by a white stripe that rises up the side of the neck, along with a white breast and mostly grey body. The female is light brown with subtle patterning. It feeds in wetlands and also in fields, often taking advantage of leftover grain in agricultural areas.
